MALE FACTOR CHATTER

Neaverbeaver, Your DB may be 47 but blokes continue to make sperm until we get the wooden overcoat and a plot on the farm... so with the right measures to optimise health/sperm production there's always hope! Am sure High FSH can be investigated and steps taken - hormone treatment etc - worth getting GP or Fertility consultant to explore this and maximise your chances too wishing you and your DB the best of luck!

MALE FACTOR CHATTER

Hi Neaverbeaver, Our little bundle of joy is now 6 months old and should be fast asleep but is actually very very awake and playing with the strap of my laptop bag as I type..little beastie From personal experience GP's are generalists that tend to be naff all use in fertility matters and you only get referred to Fertility consultants when they have run out of ideas/ pointless suggestions...Fertility consultants on the other hand tend to be IVF / ICSI centric in their methodology and are far to ...

MALE FACTOR CHATTER

Many thanks SS , I think that MF is such a taboo subject it's largely overlooked area of medicine!! Most fertility consultants rely on the old favourites - IVF / ICSI / IUI and don't tend to bother with any attempt to properly diagnose or treat MF at all ( In my opinion) - reproductive med, endochrinology and urology should have closer links rather than the piss poor uncoordinated approach of most clinics at present. The tried and tested favourites of assisted reproduction are not the way forwar...

MALE FACTOR CHATTER

Oscar is doing well - no further medical probs, Mrs D is getting over the stress and physical/emotional draining. It's Fab to be finally settling into the normal routine of family life again, his big brother adores our new addition. I could happily sleep for a month but it's worth the trade to have a happy healthy baby with us.

MALE FACTOR CHATTER

Oscar is off the cpap and breathng unaided but his crp blood test went from 40 to 114 and as a result he had to have a lumbar puncture which was very distressing for us and him, consultant paedatrician checking for meningitis and we wait for the lab to sort the fffin blood cultures from 1st round of blood tests. The stress and worry of not knowing what's making the wee man ill is so very hard for the pair of us. just want him well and home.

Dramatic fluctuations in sperm counts (26 million to zero) - Help please!

Maria G - your DH could have a hormonal issue or a problem with the germ cells or sertoli cells in the testes, a simple blood test to check testosterone, FSH, LH and prolactin, thyroid may indicate if it's hormonal and other tests can be performed to see if the testes are functioning - just badger your consultant for answers! Best of luck on your fertility journey and welcome to FZ.

Robertsonian Translocation (13;14) and low sperm count......sucess stories

Hi there and welcome to fz, there are plenty of low count successes as it only takes one of the little beggars to fertilize an egg , I don't know much about genetic deletion / translocation but I am sure someone on here may have some useful information, Robertsonian can affect up to 5 pairs of human genes but you only have 2x (13,14) that are affected - whether or not that would definitely produce abnormalities or raise possibilities of downs etc is probably best explained by your consultant but...

How to make a complaint

If the care you have received has not been good then most Clinics/Hospitals have a "Clinical Governance and complaints manager" - if you can't make progress or are unhappy with your consultant and treatment then a formal complaint can be made via this person. In really serious cases you can also raise the issue with the HFEA as they are the authority that licences fertility clinics/reproductive med depts. Best of Luck

FSH levels in a man

Heidi, your DH's FSH is very high !! a "normal" range is 5-15 UI/Litre for an adult male , very high readings are a possible indication of primary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism or a failure in the testes (faulty germ / sertoli cells) best to discuss options with your consultant at 1st opportunity.

Help analysing my results

Hi, SS or Paul E are best for technical sperm related queries and "The life in the Lab" thread is best place to pop the query. Your sample apart from the morphology is fine and there's no need to panic as some improvements can be made to morphology with a few simple measures: 1. Keep your testis cool ( avoid tight pants and soaking in hot tubs or baths, saunas and steam rooms) 2. Keep ejaculation to everyother day or 2-3 days as too frequent ejaculation (2+ per day) can mean immature unformed sp...
